A Trauma-Informed Response to Children Exposed to Violence
(For educators and school security officers)
Description: Children exposed to violence whether as victims or witnesses experience trauma that can have dramatic negative consequences for them in both the short and long term. Trauma affects the way children act in classrooms. This awareness training provides ways how educators and school personnel can use a trauma-informed response to help children exposed to violence re-establish a sense of security and stability in their lives.

Dating Dangers
(For educators, high school & college students, and school security officers)

Description: This seminar focuses on the dynamics of dating violence; the risk factors and warning signs of intimate partner violence; strategies on how to prevent and report dating and/or domestic violence; and ways to develop healthy and safe dating relationships.

Cop Shot: The Aftermath of a Shooting
​
Description: This training focuses on how police officers have survived being shot in the line of duty and the aftermath of their critical incidents, including the physical and psychological short and long-term impact of their trauma; officer safety lessons learned, and departmental and wounded officer peer support services.

Human Trafficking: A Trauma-Informed Response by Law Enforcement Officers
​
Description: This training focuses on the challenges faced by law enforcement officers in handling human trafficking cases; offers interview techniques for a trauma-informed, victim-centered interview and investigation; stresses the need for collaboration between law enforcement agencies; and provides information about the support services available for victims of human trafficking.

Effective Patrol Response to Traumatized Children Exposed to Domestic Violence

Description: This training focuses on the patrol officer’s role in responding to the specific needs of children exposed to domestic violence. Officers will learn how to conduct a victim-centered on-scene protocol for effectively responding to the needs of traumatized children exposed to and impacted by domestic violence and how to provide advocacy resources for the family.

About the Trainer
​
Donna Roman Hernandez is the CEO of Violence Intervention & Prevention Specialists LLC which is based in Essex County, New Jersey. She is a retired Police Captain who served thirty years in the Patrol Division of both the Essex County Police and Caldwell Police Departments. She is a domestic violence and sexual assault expert, a workplace violence prevention trainer, a domestic violence response team trainer, and a trauma-informed response trainer. Donna is an award-winning author, keynote speaker, and independent filmmaker/director. She is a national speaker with Equal Justice USA’s Trauma and Healing Network. Donna is a survivor of child maltreatment, decades of domestic violence, and a victim of sexual assault. Her memoir Battered Blue will be published in the winter of 2022.
